So below is the updated 2010 season:"Crowns": March 4, 5, 6, 7 Directed by Evelyn RisingA moving and celebratory musical play in which hats become a springboard for an exploration of black history and identity as seen through the eyes of a young black woman who has come down South to stay with her aunt after her brother is killed in Brooklyn. Hats are everywhere, in exquisite variety, and the characters use the hats to tell tales concerning everything from the etiquette of hats to their historical and contemporary social function."Curious Savage": April 16,17, 18, 23, 24 Directed by Mary Jo ChadwickIn this heartfelt comedy, Mrs. Savage has been left ten million dollars by her husband and wants to make the best use of it, in spite of the efforts of her grown-up stepchildren to get their hands on it. These children, knowing that the widow's wealth is now in negotiable securities, and seeing they cannot get hold of it, commit her to a "sanatorium" hoping to "bring her to her senses.""I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change": June 4, 5, 6, and June 11, 12, 13 Directed by Juston and Larry HarlinOff-Broadway’s hilarious, phenomenal longest-running musical celebrates the modern-day suburban mating game. Audiences fill the theatre with laughter as the cast explores the joys of dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives, and in-laws."Summer Children's Camp Seussical": July 22, 23, 24, 25 Directed by Sandy Goad & Ronnie Gray"Seussical" is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge — not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird."All My Sons": Sept. 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 Directed by Nathan MilesIn this classic Arthur Miller show, during the war Joe Keller and Herbert Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action. The climax showing the reaction of a son to his guilty father is fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity. The gala also day marks the Community Players of Hobbs' 73rd year of nearly continuous operation. As your president, my goals for the coming year include the final review of the theater consultant's report, improving the back lot and improving the costume room. And most importantly, finding ways to continue to improve the theater experience for visitors and participants. Your involvement and your participation is always needed and welcome.Your "Don't forget its annual fundraising time" president,Daniel RussellRemember, the Playhouse has 73 years of history and the "community" in community theater means everyone, including you!
