Awards Gala, board meetings, and Christmas wishes

Merry Christmas Playhouse folks!

GALA, GALA, GALA!: The Playhouse awards gala will be Saturday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. at Western Heritage Museum. The gala is FREE to attend but ... we are requesting reservations be made. To make reservations, call Kim's Kakes at 397-7665 or go by there, 205 W. Sanger. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served as well as awards such as the Tom Mason Award and outstanding corporate sponsors and individuals, unsung heroes, etc.

We will also be awarding the Carl H. Busch Scholarships (see below)

We are selling raffle tickets to raise money for the scholarships. Tickets are $2. Prizes include a 19" Sanyo LCD TV, a iPod shuffle and a digital camera. Raffle tickets can be purchased at Kim's Kakes, at the event itself, and with Playhouse Board of Directors.

The gala is also the time when you — the general membership — votes in a new board and approves any bylaw changes. If you have worked on a show in any capacity or attend the gala, etc. you are considered a general member and have a voice and vote on bylaws and board of directors. Your attendance is IMPORTANT.

Please mark the day and plan on attending as we celebrate the 2009 season and look forward to the 2010 season!

Kim Hill and Glynese Floyd are working on bringing us the slate of board of directors names (Yes, I have agreed to serve another term as your humble, bumbling president)

BYLAW change: The BOD is asking the general membership to approve a change to the current set of bylaws to adjust the number of times a year the board must meet. This change would be voted on at the awards gala on Jan. 23 and be effective immediately.
The current bylaws state: “C. Through the consensus of the BOD, regular monthly meetings will be scheduled.”
The propose bylaws would state: “C. Through the consensus of the BOD, the BOD shall meet a minimum of six times a year staggered throughout the year.”

SCHOLARSHIPS: The Community Players of Hobbs will once again be awarding scholarship(s) to students attending college. Applications are available at NMJC, USW, with Evelyn Rising, myself and at our Web site (I hope) [They are! :) - Webmaster]. The deadline is quickly approaching so if you know someone who could use the scholarship and willing to spend a few sweat equity hours at the Playhouse, have them fill out an application. Amounts awarded will depend on how much we raise (did I mention we are selling raffle tickets).

BOD meeting: The board of directors will meet at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 28, at the Hobbs Playhouse, 1700 N. Grimes. As always, anyone is invited to attend.

CORPORATE SPONSORS: A quick reminder, it is time to start selling our annual corporate sponsorships and Playbill advertising. This is critical for the theater's success. If you or someone you know wishes to support the Playhouse, please pass the name along.
And thank you to our past corporate sponsors! Audience ticket sales do not cover the costs of productions and running a theater so corporate sponsors are absolutely a must.

Your "still honored to be your president if you will have me" president,

Daniel Russell
