Some notes from the President

From Playhouse President Daniel Russell:

Hello Playhouse People!

BOARD MEETING: The Playhouse board of directors will meet this Monday, July 27, at 6 p.m. at the Playhouse. (Can't believe it is already the final Monday of the month!)
Items on the agenda include replacing a board member who is stepping down and beginning to discuss next season's shows (Can't believe it is about time to start accepting proposals from directors for potential shows.) As always, anyone is welcome to attend the meeting.

2010 SEASON alert: As noted above, we will likely being accepting proposals for next year from possible directors. If you are interested, now is the time to start giving it some thought. Directing is always fun, takes very little time and pays huge dollars ... not!
Ok, seriously, directing has great rewards and the setting the season with directors is the foundation to a quality season. Please consider directing if you qualify. The board typically wants a diverse season — big names shows, a comedy or two, some lesser known shows, a drama, etc. (What does diversity really mean?) Anyhow, it starts with good choices for shows and that starts with you.

ANNIE Jr.: The Summer Children's Theater Camp wrapped up this weekend with four shows of Annie Jr. It appears this year has built on the success of last year's as Sandy Goad, Ronnie Gray and crew did a great job with the 26 participants (ranging in age from 8 years old to 19).
Although we're still crunching numbers, basically every night was practically a sold out house. Way to go everyone involved with Annie!

FINAL SHOW: The final 2009 show will be Steel Magnolias, directed by Playhouse veteran Suzanne Wilson. Auditions will be coming soon so keep your email open or watch the paper or our Website, www.communityplayersofhobbs.com. Or, you of course can contact Suzanne directly.

Besides a talented group of actresses, I'm sure we'll need a house manager, volunteers to run the house and Suzanne may also need tech crew folks (lights, sound, props etc., but we'll need to check with her first!) Volunteering is fun!

• Tools: If you an extra hammer, screwdrivers, etc. just sitting around your shop or workbench and you know you'll never use it, consider donating it to the Playhouse.
• A new lighting fixture for the kitchen.
• Improving the outside entrance, signage and landscaping.
• Insulating the costume room/oven/freezer room.
• Baseboard in the theater
• Street sign improvement or something new.
• Back lot clearing and fencing, etc.
• Possibly a new answering machine that is easier to understand? (I'm needing to check with the board on this one.)

Your "tiling again" president,

Daniel Russell
